Surgical removal of juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma with contact Nd:YAG laser technique.:with Contact Nd:YAG Laser Technique

A case of juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma, which was removed with contact Nd:YAG laser, was reported.The patient was a 17-year-old male who complained of bilateral nasal obstruction and recurrent epistaxis. CT scan and MRI revealed the tumor extending from the vault of nasopharynx into the right nasal cavity. Angiography showed that the feeding artcries were the right internal maxillary and ascending pharyngeal arteries. The both arteries were embolized with gelform. Two days after embolization, the tumor was successfully removed with less bleeding (ca. 100ml) by contact Nd:YAG laser via the transpalatal approach.Contact Nd:YAG laser surgery in combination with arterial embolization is a very beneficial modality for treating nasopharyngeal angiofibroma.
