Two Interesting Cases of the Spinal Apoplexy

Two interesting cases of the spinal apoplexy who had surgical treatment and fair recovery were reported. The first case was a 46-year-old female whose paraparesis had gradually progressed during five months of illness. Intraoperative findings showed the hematomyelia at the level of T9.The other case was a 12-year-old male who developed rapidly pentaplegia within short periods. Intraoperative findings showed widespread spinal cord necrosis due to vascular disturbance at the level of T7-T11 and spinal cord swelling at the cervical region. On the other hand, microscopic examination revealed a possibility of spinal cord tumor.Including these two cases, it is suggested that MRI should be available in patients with acute non-traumatic transverse myelopathy. Finally, the difference between these cases and recently reported ones were discussed.
