Treatment of anterior body fusion with Kaneda Device for the burst fractures of middle lumbar spine.

Three patients of burst fractures of middle lumbar spine were treated with Kaneda device after anterior decompression and anterior strut grafting.In case one, type A burst fracture by Dennis, rate of lumbar canal stenosis by anteriorposterior diameter on CT was 57%, and in case three, type E, it was 68%. The case two (A type) was first treated with corrective plaster cast (Böhler positon), however, because of gradual recurrence of burst fracture, surgery was performed 5 months after injury. We considered that in case two surgical treatment should had been made in first choice. In these three cases, anterior decompression was performed perfectly and they were verified by myelogram or CTM after operation. Furthermore we examined instability of the lumbar spine using the criteria of White & Panjabi or Denis.
