Effects of adrenergic blocking agents, dihydroergotamine, dihydroergotoxine (Hydergine), priscoline and dibenamine, on intravenous glucose tolerance curve were investigated with normal fasting rats. After the pretreatment with dihydroergotamine, dihydroergotoxine and priscoline the type of glucose tolerance curve was transformed into exponential.Dibenamine did not demonstrate such an action. At the same time, the inhibiting effect of these agents on adrenaline hyperglycemia was investigated. There were not any evidences that dibenamine inhibited adrenaline hyperglycemia, while the other 3 agents could depress it. And it was concluded that the atypical blood sugar curve after intravenous glucose administration was produced by overlapping of the humped curve produced by transitory hyperglycemia due to stimulation of sympathetic nervous system and the “true” glucose tolerance curve. The latter could be separated from the former by means of the pretreatment with dihydroergotamine, dihydroergotoxine and priscoline
