1) Guanidine nitrate (G.N.) was found to inhibit the multiplication of the K-2211 strain of common cold virus. Based on this finding, the method of screening for the K-2211 strain virus was arranged.2) According to the above screening method, 1-(p-substituted phenyl)-3-dimethylamino-1-propanols were screened as to their antiviral activities for the K-2211 strain virus. 1-Biphenylyl-3-dimethylamino-l-propanol was found to possess the almost equal activity with that of G.N.3) The relationship between the antiviral properties and the chemical constitution of 1-(p-substituted phenyl)-3-dimethylamino-l-propanols was dis-cussed.
