Different tanning materials when used separately are absorbed by hide protein at different speeds. The question arises as to whether they are also taken up at different speeds from mixtures. We applied our bichromate oxidation method of tannin estimation to the research of this preferential absorption by hide powder from the following blended liquors of equal tannin proportions: 1. chestnut and wattle 2. chestnut and mangrove 3. chestnut and sulfite cellulose 4. sulfite cellulose and Mertanol 7AN.1. Blending, there was no preferential absorption at PH 3.95 and 3.00.2. Blending, chestnut tannin was preferentially absorbed at PH4.00 and 4.90.3. Blending, the vigorous preferential absorption of chestnut tannin was observed at PH5.20 and 3.43.4. Blending, the sulfite cellulose was absorbed preferentially at PH2.20 but proportionally at PH 3.50. Therfore it. is concluded from our experiments that the preferential tannin absorption by hide substance is mainly concernea in the properties of partner at blending and also that this phenomenon is possible to be repressed or facilitated by adjustment of PH value of the tan liquor.
