This work proposes a method for the alignment of the signal and pilot tone paths in self-homodyne coherent-detection systems to achieve phase noise cancelation without the need for traffic interruption. The method is demonstrated on a spatial division multiplexing transmission system using a 10.1 km 19-core multi-core fiber. It is shown that sub-centimeter resolution is achievable with penalties under 0.5 dB.
