In this work, we used the layer peeling algorithm combined with the deleted-reversal method to design and produce a PPLN device with a 400 GHz quasi-rectangular conversion response for SFG. A good agreement between target and experimental spectral response of the device was observed. The manufactured PPLN was used to perform single-pump, tunable wavelength conversion of 8×12.5 Gsymbol/s QPSK channels in a 50 GHz WDM grid. Conversion efficiency values of about -30 dB and maximum OSNR penalty of 2 dB at BER = 10-3 are reported. We observed that the performance of the wavelength converter was affected by parasitic non-linear interactions that can be mitigated by increasing the peak to side lobes ratio.
