The effect of mesaconitine (MA) on adenylate cyclase was examined. MA at the doses higher than 10^<-6> M increased the activity of adenylate cyclase prepared from cortex, hippocampus, diencephalon, mesencephalon, medulla oblongata plus pons and spinal cord in the central nervous system. The potentiating effect of MA was less than that of isoproterenol. No influence of MA on the accelerating effect of isoproterenol on adenylate cyclase was observed. Thus, it is concluded that the weak direct effect of MA on adenylate cyclase was not mediated through β-adrenoceptors.
