A GC/MS Spectrometric Study on Constituents Isolated from Curcuma wenyujin

Furanodiene (1), curcumenone (2) and β-sitosterol (3) were first isolated from the essential oil prepared by ether extraction of the rhizoma of Curcuma wenyujin. By using capillary gas chromatography (CGC) and using synthetic authentic specimens as control, these compounds and epoxy sesquiterpenoid constituents such as (1R, 10R)-epoxy-(-)-1,10-dihydrocurdione (4), (4S, 5S)-(+)-germacrone-4,5-epoxide (5) and (1S, 10S), (45, 55)-(+)-germacrone-1(10)-4-diepoxide (6) were detected in the oil but neither. (1S, 10S)-epoxy-(+)-1,10-dihydrocurdione (7) nor ger macrone-l(10)-epoxide (8) was found to exist in the oil.
