A number of researchers have studied the gas-tungsten-arc cathode phenomena. This papers discusses their results with certain aspects of the electrode mechanisms and erosion which occur on refractory arc cathode containing oxides. Recommendations are made which enable a more rational approach to be made in selecting the optimum condition for particular application and production a new non-consumable electrode.
