Estimation of the Molecular Weight of Ions by Isotachophoresis. III. Influence of Specific Gravity on the Precision of the Correlative Equations(Analytical,Chemical)

The correlative equation between the molecular weight (M) per specific gravity (d) and R_E for organic anionic substances was R_E=O.680+0.081(M/d)^<2/3>/|Z| (N=115, r=0.940). R_E values are more significantly correlated with molecular volume (M/d) than molecular weight (M), where R_E is the ratio of the potential gradient of the sample zone to that of the leading zone, and Z is the electric charge of ions. The slope value (b) of the correlative equation for each substance may represent the ratio of the resistance (fluid-dynamic drag) of the ion to molecular volume, and the intercept value (a) may represent the variation of the effective mobility per electric charge (m/|Z|). The relationship between the values of a and the ratio of the mobility per electric charge was a=-1.57+1.73 (2m_1/m_2) (N=2.3, r=0.977), where m_1, and m_2 are the absolute mobilities of divalent ions of electric charge 1 and 2. R_E-pH_L curves for determination of the optimum pH_L of electrolytes were obtained by using these constants a and b of the correlative equations for each anionic substance, and an equation for calculation of the zone pH of divalent ions is presented. The equation shows thai the R_E-pH_L curves are more influenced by the value of K_B than m_B of the buffer.
