N,N'-Bis(1-naphthylmethyl)-4, 10-diaza-15-crown-5 (1b) was found to display unique photophysical properties in the presence of the guest metal salts. The diaza-15-crown-5 (1b) exhibited high Zn^<2+> enhancement selectivity and in the presence of this cation the host fluorescence intensity was increased by a factor of 8.3.
