N-(1-pyrenylmethyl)-18-azacrown-6 ether (1) prepared by the condensation of 1-aza-18-crown-6 ether and 1-pyrenylmethyl bromide was found to display remarkable fluorescence properties in the presence of guestions. Complexation of 1 with Zn^<2+> increased the florescence intensity of the host by a factors of 13.
