Gastric ulcers were produced in living dogs by an endoscopic transmucosal injection of dilute acetic acid and the healing process was observed by serial gastrofiberscopy. A standardized healing process of the ulcers was established in a control group, and it was compared to processes of 3 groups of dogs which were treated by repeated injections of the histamine in oil mixture starting from the first week (Group I), the second week (Group II) and the 5th week after production of the ulcer (Group III). The healing process of the ulcers was different in each group. In general, the histamine delayed, but did not prevent the healing. The extent of the delay of healing was inversely related to the delay of beginning time of histamine injection. The histamine, moreover, made no effects on the once healed ulcer to reulcerate.
