The mutual separation of zirconium-95 and niobium-95 by extraction with flavonol in diisobutyl ketone was studied. Noibium is extracted from hydrochloric acid solution above 9 M with 0.02% flavonol in diisobutyl ketone. Niobium was quantitatively back-extracted with 1〜4 M hydrochloric acid or 0.5% oxalic acid solution from 0.02% flavonol in diisobutyl ketone. Only 53% of niobium was back-extracted even with 1 M hydrochloric acid solution from 0.1% flavonol solution. Zirconium-95 was also extracted from strong hydrochloric acid solution with flavonol solution, but its extraction was depressed by the addition of 0.5 M sulfuric acid. On the contrary, the extraction of niobium was not affected by adding sulfuric acid. Radio chemically pure zirconium-95 and niobium-95 could be obtained from zirconium-niobium-95 mixture by this method.
