Chromatographic separation of various acids and salts on hydrated alumina impregnated paper was studied. Among sulfuric acid, nitric acid, sulfates and nitrates of copper, zinc, cadmium, lead, manganese, nickel and cobalt, acids and copper and lead salts were successfully separated from other salts by developing merely with water. For the separation of zinc from cadmium, it was revealed that solutions of alkali iodides were well adapted as developing agent. With iodide, cadmium formed complex salt which migrated to the front of the developing agent, while zinc remained at the original position. The widths of the zinc zones were identical whether zinc was present alone or coexisted with cadmium.
