Treatment of the aging face and atrophic jaw problems within the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery has traditionally involved reconstruction of the edentulous bone using graft materials to improve masticatory function. Several different reconstructed methods and materials are reported in clinical use for the repair of bone defects in maxillomandibular areas. This paper reviews the use of related osseointegrated implants in conjunction with hard and soft tissue procedures to rehabilitate patients and report our clinical results. The surgical armamentarium includes autogenous and/or artificial bone applied with onlay, interpositional and inlay graft, guided bone degeneration of bone defects, sinus lift augumentation of the maxilla, and distraction osteogenesis of the alveolar and jaw bone. Consequently, we mentioned the future possibility of new treatment methods in a tissue engineering concept.
