The Spectrum of laser light scattered by proteins in an incubated whole lens is measured using a photon correlation spectrometer. From the measurements, it is found that the spectral line has two Lorentzian components, one being a wide spectral linewidth and the other a narrow one; and in cataractous lenses, the wide component cannot be observed. The narrow component shows the existence of aggregated proteins, and the diffusion constant corresponding to the wide component becomes smaller as the cataract progresses. The intensity ratio of the two scattered light components is sensitive to the degree to which the cataract has progressed in cataractous lenses.
