Measurement of Particle Velocity Using a Time Interval Distribution of Photoelectric Pulses

The usual laser Doppler velocimeter (LDV) cannot be used when the scattered light intensity is so low that the output of a detector becomes a chain of photoelectric pulses instead of an analytic burst signal. The usual LDV is also unsuitable when particle concentration is high. In this paper, the time interval distributions of photoelectric pulses in the LDV system and the local oscillator heterodyne (LOH) system are investigated. The particle velocity is obtained from the time interval distribution of photoelectric pulses.
