Measurement of Fine-Particle-Velocity under Spatial Frequency Domain Using a Fourier Transform Spectrometer

• A method for measuring fine-particle-velocity under a spatial frequency domain using a Fourier transform spectrometer is described. In the spatial frequency domain, the spectrum of a particle increases in inverse proportion to its size. We simultaneously approach the sampling of two-portion images of a fine-particle-flow with a short time difference, and estimate the moving velocity of the flow using autocorrelation from the recorded data. The experimental relation between the applied velocities of 5-20 mm/s to samples of 100-50 μm diameter transitory starch granules and the measured moving velocity agrees well. The advantage of this method is that it can be used for observing bubble oscillation, powder transportation and particle sizing.
