Experimental Studies on Laser-Produced-Plasma-Initiated Reflex-Triode-Type Pulsed Ion-Beam Generator

Preliminary experimental results are shown on pulsed ion- beam generation by a reflex-triode scheme with a Baser-produced anode plasma. An aluminum ion-beam maximum ion energy of about 3 MeV and peak ion-beam current of 100 -200 A has been extracted mainly to the virtual-cathode side, by irradiating a Nd-glass laser with relatively low output energy (3-5 J) onto the virtual-cathode side of aluminum-foil anode surface. In addition, employing a mesh-anode, the existence of an optimum delay-time from laser-irradiation to the rise of anode voltage (〜220 ns in the present experiments) has been demonstrated.
