Sensitivity of different developmental stages to photoperiod and temperature was studied in relation to the control of reproductive diapause of Drosophila auraria. Temperature had only a little effect at the preimaginal stages, but a considerable effect at the adult stage, and the higher the temperature, the earlier the termination of diapause. The early developmental stages were highly sensitive to photoperiod as a diapause-controlling stimulus. A long daylength at the early developmental stages averted diapause. The longer the daylength, the larger was such an effect.
