Two allied Japanese genera of the Deltocephalinae, viz. Melichariella Matsumura, 1914, and Athysanopsis Matsumura, 1914, are revised in this paper. All the figures and redescriptions prepared for this paper are based upon the Professor S. Matsumura's type specimens. Genus Melichariella Matsumura, 1914. Type, by original designation, Melichariella satsumensis Matsumura, 1914. Large, robust species. Head wider than pronotum; anterior margin rounded to frons, with a shallow transverse furrow. Eyes small, narrower than half the distance between eyes. Ocelli distant from eyes about three times their own diameter. Frons slightly tumid, a little longer than the distance between ocelli. Clypeus constricted near base, with distinct basal suture. Pronotum finely transversely striated. Fore wing large and slender; appendix large inner anteapical cell open basally. Hind wing with apical cells four. Male plates triangular, without spine-like setae, distally attenuated and membraneous. Tenth segment not sclerotized dorsally at basal half. Pygofer setose distally. Connective short Y-shaped. Aedeagus not fused to connective, recurved dorsally, with two small terminal processes and with two slender basal paraphyses dorsad. Gonopore subterminal, on dorsal surface. Styles fairly large, shaped as figured. Color sordid stramineus, generously marked with brown or fuscous, the markings usually in the form of vermiculate lines or small spots. Genus ditributed in Japan and the Bonin Islands. Genus Athysanopsis Matsumura, 1914. Type, by original designation and monotype, Athysanopsis salicis Matsumura, 1905. Head slightly wider than pronotum, other characters of head and those of pronotum, fore wing and of hind wing as well almost similar to those of the related Melichariella. Male plates narrowed rather abruptly from broad base to slender, membraneous acuminate tips, laterally furnished only with fine hair-like setae. Pygofer with about two spin-like setae caudo-laterally. Connective stout, narrowly Y-shaped. Aedeagus not fused to connective, recurved dorsally and tapering distally, with very slender, acuminate paraphyses ventrad which protrude apex of aedeagus. Gonopore apical. Styles larger than connective, with apices sharply recurved laterally and tapering to a point. Color grayish, partially yellowish, with black markings. Distribution Japan and Manchuria. Resembles genus Idiodonus Ball, 1936, of Holarctic distribution but apex of outer anteapical cell of Athysamopsis is truncate not obliquely but vertically.
