In the Genus Doratulina Melichar, 1903 (Haplotype: Doratulina jocosa Melichar, 1903), there have been recorded from Japan two species, D. orientalis Matsumura, 1914, and D. japonica Matsumura, 1914. I could examine Prof. S. Matsumura's type specimens of both species and draw the figures shown here as Fig. I and Fig. 2. Regarding them as congeneric to the genotype, D. jocosa Melichar, 1903, I made the following redescription of the genus, together with a key to the species. Doratulina: Vertex conically produced, clearly longer medially than next the eye, a little hollowed about the middle. Ocellus distant from the adjacent eye about twice the own diameter. Frons longer than the distance between ocelli. Clypeus slightly convergent distally. Pronotum narrower than head, transversely striated. In the macropterous form, fore wing destitute of outer anteapical cell and possessed of inner anteapical cell open basally, while in the brachypterous form, the venation of fore wing is quite obscure. Male plates convergent distally, with rounded apices which are slightly recurved laterally, scattered marginaly with a few spine-like setae and with small hair-like ones. Pygofer with several spine-like setae laterally and with a strongly chitinized large process arising from ventral margin and recurved so as to lie within the genital capsule. Tenth segment dorsally not sclerotized at base. Connective Y-shaped, arms of which are anteriorly convergent. Style extending posterioly beyond connective, with a long narrow arm and the apex forked. Aedeagus erect, broad basally, with an elongate gonopore on the posterior subterminal surface of shaft. 1 (2) A black large round spot present below antennal pit. Abdomen with five pale brown longitudinal stripes (brachypterous form).…D. jocosa Melichar, 1930 (Genotype. Ceylonese species) 2 (1) Ocellocular area without any black round spot. Abdomen without brownish longitudinal stripes. 3 (4) Male tenth segment membraneous dorsally except posterior narrow sclerotized band (sclerotized area less than half the dorsal area of the segment). Arms of connective convergent anteriorly and contiguous about one third anteriorly. Inner margin of the posterior tibia conspicuously infuscated.…D. orientalis Mstsumura, 1914 (Distribution: Honshu, Shikoku-unrecorded: Matsuyama and Formosa) 4 (3) Male tenth segment sclerotized dorsally, except basal small area (sclerotized area more than half the dorsal area of the segment). Arms of connective convergent anteriorly but not contiguous. Posterior tibia concolorous.…D. japonica Matsumura, 1914 (Distr.: Honshu)
