Babacephala gen. nov. (Genotype: Babacephala japonica sp. nov.) ♂. Head slightly narrower than pronotum, conspicuously projecting anteriorly, somewhat foliaceous, with the cephalic margin rounded. Crown hollowed medially, with an obscure transverse carina at about the middle, median length much greater than length next eye. Ocelli placed a little posteriorly to the middle. Frons elongate, subparallel-sided, more than three times the width above eyes, with the surface convex. Clypeus swollen and distally convergent, the suture separation it from frons fairly clear. Pronotum faintly, transversely striated in the posterior half, widest in the posterior margin, which is slightly narrower than twice the length and a little incised at the middle. Scutellum a little shorter than base, acutely projecting caudad. Fore wing elliptical, convex and shorter than the abdominal apex, with venation extremely obscure (only R. M and some irregular cross veins between them are recognizable, though one colourless claval vein which is hardly recognizable is present), appendix absent, scattered with a hair-bearing small granules. Hind wing vestigial. Legs slender, two stout spines each at apices of posterior femora. Tenth segment entirely sclerotized dorsally. Genital plate elongate, with apex recurved dorsad, several short setae on the lateral surface. Valve small. Gonnective triangular, weakly chitinized. Aedeagus thick, apex amplified and obliquely truncated, serrated on the upoer margin of central part, with inferior apex forked and upper apex projecting dorso-caudad. Gonopore dorsally subterminal. Style slender, with apex recurved ventrad, lateral surface of the subapical part somewhat furnished with fine setae. Although this genus is sililar in some respects to Acopsis Amyot et Serville, 1843, the former is an extremely differentiated peculiar genus, being considered to be an alpine one and is easily separable from the latter by the remarkable features of the head, fore wing and of the vestigial hind wing. The generic name, Babacephala, is dedicated to Dr. K. Baba, the collector of this curious new genus. Babacephala japonica sp. nov. ♂. Body and fore wing fairly lustrous. Body mostly stramineous, with a greenish tinge on head. Frons stramineous, with a large pitchy-black semicircular band above eyes. Fore wing stramineous, almost obscure, surrounding margin brown. Veins evanescent except for R, M and some irregular cross veins which are brownish. Legs stramineous, with spines brown. Length till tegminal apex 6, id. till abdominal apex 6.7mm. ♀. Unknown. Habitat. Honshu (Niigata Prefecture). Specimens examined. 1 holotype (♂) and 4 paratopotypes (♂♂) collected at an altitude of 1600 meters in Mt. Futatsumine, Niigata Prefecture, N. Honshu, Japan, July 27, 1957 , K. Baba leg. in the collection of the Entomological Laboratory, College of Agriculture, Ehime University, Matsuyama, Japan, except for one paratopotype returned to the collector.
