SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF GERMANIUM(IV) USING ο-HYDROXYHYDROQUINONEPHTHALEIN AND CETYLPYRIDINIUM CHLORIDE

The rapid, simple, and sensitive spectrophotometric determination of Ge(IV) with o-hydroxyhydroquinonephthalein(Qn.Ph.) in the presence of cetylpyridinium chloride(CPC) was studied in the concentration of ο-5.0μg Ge(IV) / 1O ml. The Sandell sensitivity was O.OOO42 μg cm^<-2> at 5O5 nm. The molar absorption coefficient of the complex was 1.7 × 10 dm mol^<-1> cm^<-1>. The coexistence of Fe(III) could be tolerated up to about 400-fold excess over Ge(IV) without masking agents, and the interference of large amounts of various metal ions could be overcome by addition of EDTA or sodium fluoride solution.
