The cultural conditions of Streptomyces deltae P3409,<1)> which produces deltamycins, were examined. Deltamycin A_1,A_2,and A_3 are new 16-membered basic macrolide antibiotics.Corn steep liquor and dried yeasts as a nitrogen source and glycerol as a carbon source are effective for production of deltamycins. The optimal temperature for production was 20℃, while that for growth was 28-30℃. Calcium ion was essential for production of deltamycins. When n-butyl alcohol was added to the broth, a considerable amount of deltamycin X was accumulated. After isolation and characterization, it was identified as 4"-O-deacyldeltamycin・The 4"-o-deacyldeltamycin was considered to be a possible intermediate in the biosynthesis of deltamycins.
