This paper describes the calculation method of a solution and a group of unknown parameters such that the solution of a non-linear partial differential equation containing a group of unknown parameters satisfies separately given constraints. This method can be applied to various problems, including the prediction of the equilibrium point of an extremely thin air film gap between a head slider and a rotating disk in a magnetic disk apparatus. Accurate prediction of this equilibrium point is of vital importance in the design. This prediction is difficult if the shape of the slider is complex, the slider is running with a skew angle, or differences in speed along the slider need to be accounted for. By employing the current method, however, precise predictions can be made with fewer iterations and therefore in a shorter time.
