Evaporating phenomena have been investigated by many researchers theoretically and experimentally, but the previous studies have hardly treated evaporation as a phenomeon which should be analyzed with consideration of both gas and liquid phases. Our 1st paper reports a theoretical study which analyzed evaporation phenomena as a heat and mass transfer problem in gas and liquid phases near the two-dimensional stagnation point. In this paper, a detailed experimental study is reported about evaporation from a horizontal flat surface which is opposed by a gas flow from above and a comparison of the result with theoretical prediction of the 1st report is made. A good agreement is obtained between them concerning the Nusselt number and the Sherwood number except the following two points ; the little effect of the vapor content of evaporating liquid in the gas phase and the small temperature difference in the liquid-gas interphase depending on the rate of evaporation.
