The exact expressions for the volume-dependent cluster sums (composed offour or less molecules) for a one-dimensional lattice gas with nearest and secondnearest neighbour interactions are derived. The detailed behaviour of thesecluster sums as functions of the volume is discussed for the case when the nearestneighbour interaction is repulsive and the second nearest neighbour interac-tuon us attracttve.
