Stacking Ordering in K-Graphite Intercalation Compounds (Stager 1-8)

The stacking order of graphite and K-layers in I<-graphite intercalation compounds(GIC) has been studied by in situ X-ray diffraction measurements. The stacking se-quence of graphite layers for stage n=2 -8 is described as (AB).7. (BC).7. (CA).7.for even-numbered stage, and ?A(BA).. .,7.?A(CA).. .,/.1 for odd-numbered stage,where the vertical line denotes a K-layer, and A, B and C the stackings of graphitelayers. The long range ordering of the stacking sequence can be interpreted by a stack-ing change model for stage transition. Stacking faults, which are remarkable in stage2, can be understood as a consequence of stage transition in the proposed model.Two solid phases of different K-layer stackings, cxp and cxpy6, have been observed instage l at elevated temperatures.
