Neutron-Diffraction Studies on the Magnetic Ordering Process in the Layered Mn Perovskite La_<2-2x>Sr_<1+2x>Mn_2O_7(x=0.40,0.45 and 0.48)

• Conuprehensive netutron-difl'raction sttrdies on Laz 3.Srj.p3.XInzO7 (.r = 0.40,0.45 and 0.48)single crystals have revealed that tlae loxv-tenaperattrre taaagnetic phase consists of planaar ferrotaaagnetic (FIVI) and A-type antif'erroutaagnetic (AFNI) conaponents, indicating 21 canted AFMordering. Upon itacreasing the hole concentrsrtion x, the canting angle between planes changesf'rona 6.3' (ne?trly planar F[&I) at .11 : 0.40 to 180' (A-type AFM) at x : 0.48, while the orderingtetnjceratttre of the FIVI component, 'Z'C, decreases frotn 120 K to O K, correspondingly. Wehave also discovered that the A-type AFNzI ordering renaains above Tc) and shows an anounalousexponential decrease to Tx x 200 K. This newly fotrnd interrnediate A-type AFIVI phase mayplay a significant role in the enhanceuauent of CIVIR effects in this layered In perovskite systetn.
