Stability of the flow in a ctrrxzed cluannel is iruvestigated xvith flue Dean arpproxitn;ttion Icy v+singthe xveakly nonlinear stability theory. A set of' ?tunp1ittrde eqtrations ['or the Dean vortices of'wavenutaaber ratio 1:2 is derived. The aunplitude eqtratiotas describe the resonant interactionsbetween tlae ftrndauaaental taaode and the higher 1a?trtnonic.. The equilibritrraa arnplittrdes of' theDean vortices are evatltuated f'rona the set of' atrnplittrde eqtrations nuttaerically. It is concltrdedthat the phenontaena of' the coatlescence of' txvo vortices ?tnd the splitting of' one I?trge vortex intotxx'o ?rre explained ['I'Ol11 the 1:2 resonance.
