On the Extrapolation of the Trotter Number in the Quantum Monte Carlo Simulation of the Magnetization Process

Making use of the transf'er matrix method, the Trotter number dependence of the magnetizationis studied for various Heisenberg chains including the trimerized model which has ferromagnetic-ferromagnetic-antiferrornagnetic exchange coupling constants along the chain. In the trirnerizedmodel the dependence on the Trotter number is found to be nonmonotonic and it warned thatextrapolations from small Trotter ntrmbers result in spurious wrong behavior. We discuss therelation between the nonmonotonicity and ground state phase transition of the system. We alsopropose an alternate extrapolation method in a Legendre transformed variable.
