Fermi Surface of CeRu_2 within Local-Density Functional Theory

The Fermi surface is investigated for the heavy-electron compound Cecum, which is known as atype-II strpercondtrctor exhibiting anomalotrs naagnetic properties, on the basis of the itinerantelectron model for the 4f electrons. The energy band strtrcture is calculated by a relativisticlinear augmented-plane-wave nuethod with the exchange-correlation potential in the local-densityapproximation. The Fermi surface is found to consist of a set of six small laole pockets, a largemultiply-connected hole sheet and a set of three complex electron sheets and a set of three snuallelectron pockets. Recent experimental results for the de Haas-van Alphen effect are explainedreasonably well in ternas of the large hole sheet arad the srnall electron pockets except for thecyclotron effective mass. It seems that many frequency branches may have been rrtissed in theexperiment. A nesting property of the Fernai strrface is also investigated.
