Equation for the state surface for solids in terms of the specific internal energy, entropy and specific volume has been discussed in detail starting from the Griineisenassumption. It has been revealed that the Griineisen assumption leads us to thespecific heat at constant volume to be the function of entropy only. Riemann integralwritten in the generalized form independent of the assumption on the Griineisen y hasbeen obtained, and the strategy to reach the solution of the Riemann problem hasbeen shown.[Grfineisen equation of state, high-pressure shock wave, Riemann problem, lJ elastic-plastic flow, numerical methodl
