Based on the collision-theoretical results by Longuet-Higgins, Pople, and Valleaufor a binary hard sphere mixture, thermal diffusion is discussed at the most elemen-tary level to formulate it consistently with linear nonequilibrium thermodynamicswithout using the two-step logic outlined by the above authors. In accordance withthe previous proposition by the present authors (J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 57 (1988) 3332),specific enthalpies transported and of transport play an important role in maintainingthe consistency under the Onsager reciprocal relation. Individual quantitiestransported and of transport are explicitly formulated, of which the quantities oftransport are subject to an analogue of the Gibbs-Duhem equation at constant temper-ature and pressure to validate an equation for the sum of the mechanical and ther-modynamic forces.
