Circular Phase of a Two-Dimensional Ferromagnet with Dipolar Interactions

We make a large-scale lVIonte Carlo (IVIC) simtrlation of a ferrornagnetic Heisenberg rnodelwith dipolar interactions on a two-dirnensional square lattice L x L with open boundaries. Wefind that, as L is increased, the spin structure changes from a ferromagnetic one to a novel onecharacterized by a circular arrangenaent of spins, We strggest that, in the theruauodynamic limit, along-range circular phase occurs in the cooperation of' the exchange and the dipolar interactionsand that the phase transition between the paramagnetic phase and the circular phase is of thesecond order. In this study, we develop a discrete trpdate IVIC method which redtzces the CPUtime from of the order ,y2 to N log. N per one MC sweep, where N is the number of the spins,
