A Molecular Dynamics Study of Relaxation Processes at a Detonation Wave Front

Energy relaxation processes at a detonation wave front are studied with use of themolecular dynamics method. The model system is a hard disk system whichundergoes an exothermic isomerization reaction A -f-S4BArS YAQ, where AQ is areaction heat. Computations are performed for several values of the molar fractionof each species. Almost all the chemical energy of A particles is released when thedetonation wave front passes. It is found that this relaxation process is composed oftwo kinds of time regions; one is a rapid decay process caused by non-correlated reac-live collisions and the other a slow relaxation by the thermodynamic relaxationand / or the cage effect of particles.[molecular dynamics, chemical reaction, detonation, hard disk system, exother- ]l mic reaction, computer experimentl
