Theoretical Studies of the X-Ray Absorption Near-Edge Structures (XANES) of Hydrogen Adsorbed Metals

We theoretically investigate the possibility to obtain the information aboutthe hydrogen adsorption on metals by the XANES spectroscopy. The theoreticalmethod used in this study was proposed by the present authors. Three metals arechosen for the substrates; Ni, W and Pt. The calculated results show that theXANES spectroscopy is useful only for H on W system. In other two systemsobservable changes caused by hydrogen adsorption are not observed in theXANES spectra.
