Determination of Z_<eff> and Ion Density of NOVA II Tokamak Plasma by Neutral Beam Probe

A neutral hydrogen beam has been used flor determining the effective ioncharge Z... and the proton density of the NO N'A II tokamak plasma. In the hy-drogen plasma, the Z.(. was close to 1, and the proton density was found to benearly equal to the electron density. In the hydrogen plasma with an injection ofa considerable amount of metha?ae gas, the Z... determined by the neutral beamprobe and by the plasma conductivity showed good agreement around the valueof 2. The time behavior of the densities of protmcns and carbons indicates that theeffective confinement time for carbon may be a little shorter than that for hy-.drogen.
