The spatial distribution of gas temperature in the cylindrical positive column of a lowpressure glow discharge has been theoretically investigated. Although the theory hasbeen based on the Elenbaas-Heller equation, here the energy input of neutral particlesincluded in the equation has been given by the elastic collision with electrons.According to this, some fresh and remarkable features never found so far, have beenobtained. Concrete calculations have been made in He, Ne, and Ar by making use ofthe quasineutral theory of the positive column recently presented by the authors, andseveral characteristics have been produced. These results will be contributed toelucidate the mechanism of positive column in gas discharge media including gas laserplasmas.
