The electrophoresis phenomenon in a cylindrical positive column has beentheoretically investigated. An extensive improvement on the theory has beenmade from the view point of the momentum transmitted to neutral particlesfrom charged particles on the basis of the quasi-neutral theory of the positivecolumn recently presented by the authors. According to this, several fresh results,for example, a general expression for the pressure gradient along the axis, anddependence of the pressure gradient on the pressure and the tube radius havebeen obtained. In addition, a cornparison between calculated and experimentalcharacteristics has verified the diffusion cooling for positive tons predicted bythe authors before.
