The mechanism of supercotaductivity in the first stage graphite-alkali metalintercalation compounds C.M (M=K, Rb, or Cs) is investigated by the use of amethod to solve the gap equation from the first principles. The observed transitiontemperature and anisotropy of the superconductivity can be explained well, whenwe consider that the three-dimensional alkali metal .v-like electrons contributeto superconductivity with the aid of both the acottstic and the optic phonons inwhich the negatively charged carbon layers oscillate, respectively, in phase andout of phase with the positively charged alkali metal layers to give strong polarcouplings with the electrons. The possibility of superconductivity in the two-dimensional graphite z-like electrons is also examined by the same method andfound to be very small.
