New Phases of Sr_2Ta_2O_7 and Sr_2Nb_2O_7 Found by Electron Microscopy and Diffraction

New low temperature phases of Sr.Ta.O7 and Sr.Nbz07 were found byelectron microscopy. Sr.Ta,0 7 undergoes a structural phase transition at about170'C to a superlattice structure belonging to the monoclinic system with spacegroup P2./m, accompanying the appearance of characteristic twin and antiphasedomains. SrzNbz07 has an incommensurate phase below about 220'C with anirrational lattice modulation in the [1004 direction and an intricate fine domain-liketexture.
