In "'Sn" an E5 y transition between the 314.2keV (1172 ) and the ground(172") states was observed by using a Compton suppression spectrometer. Itsbranching ratio was found to be (4.9.fI.])x 10-'. A 717(f5) value obtained hereis (2.9-50.6) X 10' e'fm". An effective charge of the E5 7 transition was deducedto be (0.23 f0.03)e in Weisskc>pf estimate. This is of the same magnitude asthose in "'Cd" and "'To". In the single particle unit the effective charge wasobtained to be (0.089.f0.0]0),e by using the 1h.?7. and 3s37. wave functionsdeduced from the Woods-Saxon potential. A core polarization charge due tothe 5 state at 2367 keV in "'Sn was calculated to be 0.11e, by taking intoaccotmts of the effects due to the pairing.RADIOACTIVITY "'Sn", "'Sn(7, p3n); measured E., I, of E5, deducedfl(,ZF5), effective charge. Contpton suppression spectrometer.
