The slow neutron capture cross section for ^<171>Er was obtained to be (2.8±0.3)×10^2 barns by irradiating natural Er with the high flux pile. The (n,γ) reaction cross section for ^<171>Tm, far from the stable isotope ^<169>Tm, was determined to be (1.6^<+0.3>_<-1.0>)×10^2 barns in this irradiation.
