Total absorption method has been applied to 4s' "S.-4snp "Pg (6<77<10)and to 4s" S. -3d4p "P. in calcium in the presence of krypton. The determinedrate coefficient for Kr-induced broadening increases from 11 to 59 x 10 'cm's "as n increases from 6 to 9. This result is reproduced well by a calculation basedon a classical broadening theory in which the collision interaction is assumed tobe a superposition of the polarization potential and the Fermi potential.
