Numerical Study of LHRF-Heating in a Tokamak

By use of a one-dimensional tokarrtak transport simulation code, numericalestimations are performed of the heating of the lower hybrid range of frequencies(LHRF) in JET-2 tokamak. The coupling of launched electromagnetic wave intoa r>lasma, r>ror>axation and absorr>tion of the wave are considered within theframework of linear theory and the resultant energy deposition is incorporatedinto the transport code. The result of simulation gives the maximum heatingefficiency of the value of 2 -3 eV/kW, when the turning point of lower hybridwave is located near the center of the>plasma column, whereas IN1.5 eV/kWin the experiment. It is found that the density windov.r of the theory is narrowerthan that of the experiment. The importance of two-dimensional propagationand the nonlinear absorption of waves is indicated.
